Biography

Chanraksmey Sokun is an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Phnom Penh office. She assists clients in trademarks, patents, and other intellectual property matters, including registration, enforcement, anti-counterfeiting strategies, and commercialization.

An active defender of her clients' intellectual property rights, Chanraksmey contributes to the protection of her clients' brands by responding to authorities’ requests for information or clarification, and monitoring the activities of third parties and potential infringers. She also regularly updates brand owners on legal developments in Cambodia, especially new application and renewal procedures, in addition to formulating effective intellectual property strategies and legal analyses when needed.

Chanraksmey received a law degree from the Royal University of Law and Economics. She is fluent in Khmer and English.

 


Experience
  • Advised a local company in the entertainment industry on its copyright-related agreements and reviewed the agreements, including a brand ambassadorship agreement, composer agreement, concert production agreement, performance agreement, and so on, in order to fit the client’s business objectives.
  • Represented clients in trademark matters before the Department of Intellectual Property Rights within Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce. This includes filing trademark applications for registration, maintaining and defending trademark portfolios through recordal of changes/assignments, oppositions, cancellations, renewals, registration of license agreements, watch services, and other related actions.
  • Acted for multinational clients across their full range of needs relating to patents, utility models, and designs in Cambodia. This includes representing clients before the Department of Industrial Rights within Cambodia’s Ministry of Industry and Handicraft to file applications for registration, respond to office actions, record changes in application details, and pay annuities.
