Thiep Huy Nguyen is of counsel and assists with litigation cases for T&G Law Firm LLC (TGVN), a licensed law firm and IP agent that partners with Tilleke & Gibbins for local filings in Vietnam. Thiep is a renowned attorney in Vietnam with almost 30 years of practice in civil, administrative, and criminal cases, and assists with litigation cases as of counsel. He has represented litigants in court in many of Vietnam’s highest-profile cases, and has also advised clients in administrative lawsuits and commercial disputes over intellectual property, technology transfer, and civil transactions.
In recognition of his service to the legal field, Thiep has been awarded multiple certificates of merit by the People’s Committee of Hanoi, the Vietnam Bar Federation, and the Hanoi Bar Association. In 2015, he was honored by the Ministry of Justice as one of 30 “Shining Examples in Law” at a ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of the legal newspaper Phap Luat Viet Nam.
Thiep teaches at the Judicial Academy of Vietnam and served more than a decade as Deputy Chair of the Hanoi Bar Association. He currently plays a leadership role in the Vietnam Bar Federation as the Chairman of the Lawyer’s Advocacy Board and a member of the National Council of Lawyers.
- Acted as attorney in court for a world-famous U.S.-headquartered technology company in a labor dispute at the appellate proceeding, in which the ex-employee claimed compensation of nearly VND 1.8 billion (approx. USD 68,000).
- Advised and acted as attorney in court for a well-known pharmaceutical company to resolve a labor-related lawsuit initiated by its ex-employee before the Court of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The value of the resolved compensation was about VND 928 million (approx. USD 39,500).
- Advised and acted as attorney in court for an FDI company to successfully win the first-instance trial at the HCMC Court in a civil lawsuit initiated by its ex-employee claiming compensation for non-contractual liability of nearly VND 2 billion (approx. USD 85,000).
- Advised and represented the former Chairman of Hanoi in several criminal cases before the People’s Court of Hanoi.
- Advised and represented the former Minister of Transportation in a criminal case regarding the bidding for a state-funded project.
- Acted as attorney in a court case where the defendant was a former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Defense for the crime of lack of responsibility causing serious consequences.
- Acted as attorney in a court case regarding violations of regulations on management and use of state property causing loss and waste and violations of regulations on land management occurring at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and a major beer producer, causing damage to the state of more than VND 2.7 trillion (approx. USD 114 million).
- Acted as attorney in a court case regarding violations of regulations on investment in construction works related to an expressway project, causing serious consequences and damages of VND 811 billion (approx. USD 34 million).
- Acted as attorney in a court case regarding the violation of regulations on banking activities and related activities between a state-owned bank and the personnel of the bank, causing damages of over VND 1.6 trillion (approx. USD 67 million).
- Acted in a court case related to bribery of a leading state-owned petrol company.
