Biography
Chi Lan Dang is an associate with the Tilleke & Gibbins trademark team in Hanoi. She assists clients in sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals to luxury goods in protecting their trademarks in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, in matters including filing and prosecuting trademark applications; handling oppositions, cancellations, invalidations, and appeals; and advising and prosecuting trademark license and assignment agreements.
Chi worked at a top local IP firm before joining Tilleke & Gibbins, and she has gained considerable knowledge and practical experience in the protection of intellectual property rights with an emphasis on oppositions and appeals.
Experience
- Successfully appealed the provisional refusal of an international trademark registration of the three-dimensional mark, a perfume bottle, of a French multinational luxury cosmetics company.
- Opposed several trademarks that were confusingly similar to the well-known trademark of a famous company specializing in optics and imaging products.
- Represented and advised one of the largest Vietnamese companies in the food industry in successful opposition actions against a similar trademark based on an exclusive industrial design patent.
- Successfully opposed a trademark that is confusingly similar to a world-famous textile machinery company’s trademark.
- Appealed office actions against trademark applications for one of the world’s biggest chemical companies, including a refusal on descriptive grounds.
