Biography

Napagate Triratana is a senior associate and patent agent in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property department in Bangkok. With extensive knowledge in patents, she advises and represents both domestic and international clients in the enforcement and protection of their IP rights. Napagate assists clients with patent and design searches, and she has successfully registered numerous designs, patents, and petty patents with the Thai Department of Intellectual Property. She also deals with filing appeals, oppositions, and cancellations.

Prior to joining Tilleke & Gibbins, Napagate worked in the corporate law group of a leading accounting and advisory firm. She has experience advising clients on corporate secretarial services, labor law, and other compliance matters.

Napagate graduated with a law degree from Assumption University. She is a member of the Thai Bar Association and the Lawyers Council of Thailand, and she speaks fluent Thai and English.


Experience
  • Managing the global patent portfolio for a subsidiary of Thailand’s leading oil and gas company, including the management of patent prosecution in 30 countries worldwide on behalf of the client.
  • Appointed as the sole firm to handle the filing of recordals of assignment and name changes after the purchase of a massive patent portfolio from an affiliated company in the USA, which included over 200 patents and patent applications in more than 25 countries globally. Advice also included developing a cost-effective strategy to register patents in other countries.
  • Acted for a leading diversified petrochemical company in Thailand in responding to a PCT international search report and written opinion.
  • Acted for various multinational clients in registering patents, utility models, and designs in Thailand, Laos and various other jurisdictions. Work on such prosecution matters generally includes filing applications, responses to office actions, oppositions, and appeals to strengthen and defend the clients’ patents.
  • Advised an Australian company on compulsory licenses in relation to their products in the hematology and immunology spaces.
  • Acted as a counsel for a Korean entity in conducting IP due diligence for the potential bidding of a sizable patent and trademark portfolio.
  • Advised a major pharmaceutical company on the possible recordal of the license agreement with the Thai patent office.
  • Retained to represent a reputable Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer in patent registration matters in Thailand.
  • Conducted patent and design searches on behalf of clients in a wide range of industries.
  • Filed and successfully registered patents, petty patents, and designs with the Thai Department of Intellectual Property.
  • Represented clients in filing appeals, oppositions, and cancellations to strengthen and defend their valuable patents.
