Biography

Nwe Oo is a senior associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Myanmar office. Practicing primarily in the firm’s corporate and commercial group, Nwe is a skilled litigator with far-reaching experience in both civil and criminal commercial matters. As a former prosecutor, he has substantial experience handling primary cases, appeals, and amendment cases in the Divisional Court and Supreme Court of Myanmar. As a result of his legal expertise and exceptional client service, he is ranked as a leading lawyer in Myanmar by Asialaw Leading Lawyers.

For almost a decade, Nwe acted as an expert legal adviser to numerous local Myanmar firms, including a leading information technology company, where he served as in-house counsel. In this role, Nwe handled human resources and employee affairs, tax, commercial memorandums of understanding and agreements, company formation and business matching, franchise agreements and management, consultancy and project management, and investment negotiations. With Tilleke & Gibbins, Nwe is active in advising clients on intellectual property and commercial matters, including customs and tax, project development, corporate formation, joint ventures, distribution and franchising, and employment law.

He also contributes his legal expertise to the World Bank's research projects on investment, employment, and property in Myanmar. Nwe is a member of the Bar Council of Myanmar.


Experience
  • Advised on the rules and regulations of an online payment system for an information technology company. This e-wallet system was the first of its kind in Myanmar.
  • Prepared a business outsourcing contract comprising a security scheme and management system.
  • Advised on data and fee collection agreements with government departments in Myanmar.
  • Checked the validity of and provided legal advice on memorandums of understanding and term sheets of foreign investment schemes.
  • Advised on the master service agreement between an information technology company and a telecommunications operator regarding the extent of service cooperation in Myanmar.
