Biography

Tu Ngoc Trinh is a senior associate with the Tilleke & Gibbins corporate and commercial team in the firm’s Hanoi office. Tu handles a range of corporate matters including company formation, employment, commercial transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. She is a key member of the firm’s top-tier franchising practice in Vietnam, and also takes the lead on cases related to competition and consumer protection laws in Vietnam. Tu also contributes her expertise to the firm’s tech/media/telecom and life sciences practices.

Tu obtained an LLB with a focus on commercial law from the Hanoi University of Law and a Certificate in French Law from the Vietnam-France House of Law, winning competitive scholarships at both institutions in recognition of her scholastic excellence. Tu is a member of the Hanoi Bar Association and the Vietnam Bar Federation.

  • Advised one of the biggest chocolate and confectionery companies in the world on a range of issues including anti-competition regulations in Vietnam.
  • Advised a global healthcare company on commercial terms and anti-competition requirements.
  • Advised and supported a multinational technology company that specializes in consumer electronics, software and online services for a high-profile product recall in Vietnam.
  • Advised a multinational technology/telecommunications company on regulatory, licensing and anti-competition requirements for investment in, acquiring, building, operating, and maintaining a fiber backhaul network which would be connecting to submarine cable landing stations in Vietnam.
  • Served as local counsel to a global telecommunications company on the sale and transfer of an optical networks business in Vietnam; advised on formation and operation in Vietnam and setting up a representative office, and handled all post-licensing matters, including registration of seal, bank account and change of address.
  • Advised global franchisors in fashion, food and beverages, and education on franchise matters in Vietnam and obtained approvals from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
  • Assisted a major European solar panel producer with the acquisition of the majority charter capital of Vietnamese power companies in central and southern Vietnam.
  • Assisted a Malaysian private equity fund with the acquisition of shares of a Southeast Asian operation of tower facilities and communication networks for mobile and broadband with subsidiaries in Vietnam.
  • Helped a multinational company establish a foreign direct investment company engaged in the import/export and distribution of mobile phones and computers. The established company was one of the few foreign-owned companies permitted to do business in this sector in Vietnam.
  • Helped a multinational company in the business of turbines, energy management software and energy technology services to establish a representative office in Vietnam.
  • Assisted a global education institute on data privacy in Vietnam.
