Biography

Duc Anh Tran is an associate with T&G Law Firm LLC (TGVN), a licensed law firm and IP agent that partners with Tilleke & Gibbins for local IP filings and litigation in Vietnam. Based in the Hanoi office, Duc assists with forming strategies and preparation for litigation and arbitration cases in various complex areas, including aviation, energy, construction, insurance, and trade.

Duc assists in implementing the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and advises on commercial matters. His practice also extends to intellectual property matters, notably in copyright, franchising, licensing and domain name disputes. Duc earned an LLM from the Queensland University of Technology and currently serves as a visiting lecturer at some of Vietnam’s top universities. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb).

  • Represented a Danish offshore service company in a contractual dispute against a Vietnamese contractor before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
  • Assisted an Indian IT company in successfully negotiating a settlement with a Vietnamese bank in a USD 10 million contract dispute related to the client’s provision of licensed banking software and related support services.
  • Represented a Malaysian company in the oil and gas sector in an arbitration case before the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) related to performance of contract in a well plugging and abandonment project.
  • Advised a European elevator company in arbitration proceedings at VIAC in a USD 8 million dispute with a Vietnamese developer over the delay in implementation of a construction contract.
  • Represented a global agricultural sciences company in arbitration cases before VIAC related to collection of unpaid amounts of its Vietnamese distributors.
  • Represented a Chinese company in a contract dispute of USD 4 million with regard to the implementation of a hydropower project before VIAC.
  • Represented a U.S. insurance company in pursuing storage damage claims of a nearly USD 4 million against Vietnamese companies before a local Vietnamese court.
  • Assisted a Chinese furniture supplier in a contract dispute with a Vietnamese manufacturing company, with a claim of USD 10 million.
  • Represented a European manufacturer of industrial foams and insulation materials in a contractual dispute before local Vietnamese courts.
  • Assisted an American composer in a lawsuit against a well-known Vietnamese singer for copyright infringement.
  • Advised an international sports association in a criminal prosecution against Vietnamese individuals for intellectual property infringement.
  • Assisted in a wide range of domain name disputes using UDRP proceedings before the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
