WTR Anti-counterfeiting: A Global Guide 2019—Thailand Chapter
World Trademark Review

World Trademark Review  (WTR) recently published the 2019 version of their annual, global anti-counterfeiting guide, a publication that takes an in-depth look at anti-counterfeiting laws, procedures, and strategies in important jurisdictions from around the world. The latest guide is comprised of 22 country-specific chapters, each of which covers a number of pre-determined anti-counterfeiting topics including, among others, legal framework, border measures, criminal prosecution, civil enforcement, and preventative measures.

Three members of the intellectual property (IP) group at Tilleke & Gibbins’ headquarters in Bangkok—Wiramrudee (Pink) Mokkhavesa, partner; Ninpim Nawavatcharin, attorney-at-law; and Domeyada Makesawat, consultant—contributed the Thailand chapter for the guide. In discussing preventative measures and strategies to fight counterfeiting, the Thailand chapter dives into the sizable shift of counterfeit products from physical to digital spaces—through social media channels and websites. Because online infringement can be more difficult to track down and stop through such avenues, Tilleke & Gibbins’ IP professionals end the Thailand chapter by providing four actions that rights holders can take in pursuing online suppression.

In addition to authoring the Thailand chapter, IP practitioners from Tilleke & Gibbins also contributed the Cambodia and Vietnam chapters to the guide.

The chapter first appeared in Anti-counterfeiting: A Global Guide 2019, a supplement to World Trademark Review, published by Globe Business Media Group – IP Division. To view the guide in full, please visit WTR’s website.
