Thomas J. Treutler, managing director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ Vietnam offices, was quoted in the June 18-24 issue of Vietnam Investment Review in an article on domestic pay TV providers’ concerns about the proliferation of cross-border over-the-top (OTT) internet television services.

According to some Vietnamese providers, OTT giants like Netflix and Amazon are threatening to put the domestic pay TV industry out of business. Thomas took a more practical view, acknowledging the inevitability of the OTT revolution, and advising that traditional pay TV operators “should find new ways to change their business models in order to survive and compete,” adding that “very few countries regulate [OTT] services, and this has led to a great deal of innovation and access to lots of content for the public.”

Thomas was also interviewed for the issue’s feature on Vietnam Journalists’ Day.
