David Lawrence to Present on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act at Joint Chambers Event
American Chamber of Commerce Thailand and British Chamber of Commerce Thailand

Thailand’s Organic Act on Counter-Corruption was recently amended to impose strict liability on companies for corrupt acts committed by a company’s “associated persons,” unless there are “adequate procedures” in place to prevent such corruption. In addition, the amendments criminalize corruption that involves “foreign officials” and impose the death penalty on foreign officials that engage in corrupt activities.

To comment on these issues and more, David Lawrence, a consultant in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group, will present on the topic “FCPA Overview” at a joint AMCHAM Thailand and BCCT Thailand Legal Committee meeting on “Anti-Corruption: It’s All about Compliance (or Adequate Procedures).” David will provide an overview of the United States’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and how this law and recent amendments to Thailand’s Organic Act on Counter-Corruption aim to incentivize companies to adopt robust compliance systems that prevent the use of third-party agents for corrupt activities.

The Legal Committee meeting will take place on October 19 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Hilton Sukhumvit hotel. If you would like to learn more about this event, please visit the AMCHAM Thailand website.
