David Lyman’s Perspective on Thailand’s Political Crisis Reported in The Nation Newspaper

Thailand has been fraught with political instability since antigovernment protests began six months ago. This week, the Thai military instigated martial law, in what senior army officials say is a move to maintain peace and order in an increasingly volatile situation.

David Lyman, chairman and chief values officer at Tilleke & Gibbins, was quoted in The Nation newspaper for his views on the current political climate in Thailand. He said that he was relieved to see someone in a leadership position take charge of the situation and that the military’s actions thus far did not amount to a coup.

“Somebody has to step up and say that enough is enough, since the important thing is to get the economy, businesses, and the government running again—and fighting among each other will not get the country anywhere,” David said.
