Ministry of the Interior, which handled (and still handles) a broad portfolio of issues, including labor matters, at that time. More recently, however, labor statutes have been enacted through parliamentary processes with the approval of the King. The Ministry of Labor has developed into a sizable regulator, and it has issued numerous labor regulations.

This chapter, published in the second edition of International Employment Law, provides an overview of the regulatory environment in Thailand and its impact on employers. Within the context of the Civil and Commercial Code, the Labor Protection Act, and other legislation, the chapter reviews issues such as the legal definition of employment (“hire of service”), transfer of a business, employment terms and conditions, discrimination, collective bargaining, and other issues.
