Sukontip Jitmongkolthong Presents on IP Issues for the Automotive Industry

Tilleke & Gibbins attorney Sukontip Jitmongkolthong recently participated in the 8th Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries Intellectual Property Rights Symposium, organized by the Thai Automotive Industry Association. The FAMI-IPR Symposium, held on April 4 in conjunction with the Bangkok International Motorshow 2012, brought together leading automotive manufacturers and suppliers to discuss key intellectual property rights issues within their industry.

Sukontip’s presentation, entitled “Problems and Solutions in Relation to Intellectual Property Rights in Thailand,” provided an overview of the rights enjoyed by IP owners in Thailand, as well as their available enforcement options under the law. During the discussion, Sukontip looked at some key case studies from within the industry—such as the challenges of fake automotive parts, unauthorized signage used by fake dealers, copied designs, issues with former licensees, and grey market and parallel import products. Participants gained a new perspective on their IP enforcement options and how best to maximize the value of their IP.
