Biography

Chanya Veawab is an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property and regulatory affairs department in Bangkok. She ensures that domestic and international clients receive maximum protection for their trademarks under Thai law by handling trademark searches and assisting with new applications, registrations, oppositions, analysis of objections, licensing agreements, and other trademark-related matters across multiple jurisdictions.

As an active contributor to Tilleke & Gibbins’ regional regulatory affairs team, Chanya advises international and local clients regarding pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food, cosmetics, marketing and advertising regulations, and other matters relating to the Thai Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health. She also provides international and local clients with insightful legal opinions on a variety of problems and questions, and assists with reviewing contracts and MOUs between private clients and governmental departments.

Chanya graduated with an LLB from Thammasat University and obtained an LLM in Fashion Law from Fordham University, where she acquired wide range of legal knowledge of laws relating to fashion, modeling, retail activities, cosmetics and drugs, and licensing in both civil and common law jurisdictions. She also supported brand owners with legal matters through the pro bono clinic of the Fordham Fashion Law Institute. Chanya is admitted to the Thai Bar and is an active member of the Thai Bar Association.


Experience
  • Assisted a healthcare and biotechnology company with reviewing and drafting a collaborative memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health for deployment of software relating to health applications.
  • Provided comprehensive advice to leading global food and beverage and distillery companies on labeling requirements, advertising, and promotional materials in Thailand, with particular emphasis on FDA requirements and the consequences of improper advertisement content, as well as implementing effective strategies to overcome potential objections by the Department of Health.
  • Acted for the Thailand office of an American multinational advertising and PR agency in reviewing and revising an influencer agreement to secure and protect the client’s interests regarding the parties’ rights, responsibilities, and obligations, and to mitigate any risk of future disputes.
  • Managed various multinational companies’ trademark portfolios, which entailed maintaining and defending their trademarks through IP searches, registration, recordations, oppositions, cancellations, renewals, license agreements, watch services, and other related actions.
  • Filed trademark applications and collaborated with officials at Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property to ensure smooth registration processes for brand owners across a wide range of industries; assisted trademark applicants in overcoming trademark examiners’ objections; and reviewed and proposed new descriptions for complex lists of goods and services.
