News Network Asia Interviews Wiramrudee Mokkhavesa on IP Enforcement

Wiramrudee (Pink) Mokkhavesa, an attorney-at-law in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group in Thailand, was recently interviewed by News Network Asia (NNA) for an article on notable developments in intellectual property enforcement in Thailand and the region.

In her interview, Wiramrudee provided NNA with an insightful overview on current counterfeit trends. “The rapid development of transportation infrastructure across Indochina has brought with it unintended consequences in the form of increased inflow of counterfeit products into key markets,” she said.

As an intellectual property practitioner at the forefront of the battle against counterfeits, Wiramrudee sees several new challenges, including infringers increasingly importing counterfeit goods in small quantities, sometimes hidden among personal belongings, to evade detection, as well as selling their products online, where enforcement is much more difficult.

Wiramrudee remains confident that brand owners and the law firms that represent them are holding their own against counterfeits. She said, “To combat counterfeits, law firms like Tilleke & Gibbins conduct both intellectual property enforcement and litigation on behalf of brand owners. Our firm recently won a significant ruling for a global automotive company, in which the court ordered an infringer to pay our client one of the largest sums ever awarded for a design patent infringement case in Thailand.”
