Chambers Asia-Pacific

Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property practice in Vietnam has achieved a “Band 1” ranking in Chambers Asia-Pacific 2016. To determine the rankings, more than 140 researchers conducted client interviews and assessed recent work handled by firms. Departments within law firms were ranked according to their effectiveness and capability as a whole, as well as their lawyers’ qualities, strengths, and depth.

Commenting on the strength of Tilleke & Gibbins’ IP practice in Vietnam, the ranking’s editorial says the firm offers “skilled litigation” and handles “a variety of patent and trademark disputes for high-profile brands.” The firm “demonstrates significant capacity for prosecution and enforcement mandates” and “acts for an impressive client base featuring key names in media and pharmaceuticals,” it continues. One client is quoted as saying, “they’ve handled some pioneering court cases this year.”

Thomas J. Treutler, managing partner of Tilleke & Gibbins’ Vietnam offices, has “a very good understanding of the Vietnam legal environment,” according to one interviewee. Peers recommend Loc Xuan Le, head of IP enforcement in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Hanoi office, for his “very good working relationship with government agencies, which is very important in the local context.” Thomas and Loc were recognized in the “notable practitioner” section, and they both received individual rankings.
