Senior Associate, Intellectual Property (Patent)

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is for an intellectual property associate in our patent department to assist clients with issues related to the ownership of patents and industrial design.  The associate is expected to have strong expertise and knowledge in the field and capabilities in rendering professional advice and managing complex issues.

Areas of Responsibility

Practice 

  • Prepare, draft, and review, patent specifications
  • Provide consultancy for patent-related matters
  • Conduct patent searches, patent infringement analysis, and freedom-to-operate searches and analysis
  • File patent/industrial design applications and report the filing particulars, publication progress, and registration progress
  • Respond to inquiries, including, but not limited to, new application procedures/estimated costs, renewal procedures/estimated costs, and other patent/industrial design-related matters
  • Formulate strategies, provide opinions and analytical responses to clients, and act as the primary contact for clients
  • Perform research when and as necessary to resolve issues and determine the appropriate course of action regarding a particular issue/case

Client Development and Managing Work and Relationships

  • Take initiative, design, and implement business development and marketing plans for the Intellectual Property practice group for Indonesia office and the firm’s overseas offices in the region
  • Regularly publish articles and make presentations that increase the firm’s visibility and result in new business
  • Participate in crafting proposals and pitching for new business from current or prospective clients
  • Identify and participate in relevant conferences as agreed by partners/department heads
  • Take full ownership of work with minimal oversight from partners
  • Effectively and efficiently manage projects and matters well
  • Provide superior service to clients and colleagues at all times

Administrative Tasks

  • Manage other administrative tasks in professional and timely manners such as time recording, invoicing, billing and chasing aged debt, matter opening, conflicts, etc.

  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge and business judgment that inspires client’s confidence
  • Excellent written and spoken skills in both Indonesian and English and ability to present information, including complex issues, clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrate true commitment to achieve positive matter outcomes

Experience

  • Registered as a Consultant of Intellectual Property Rights at the Directorate General
  • minimum of Bachelor’s degree in science or patent-related field
  • Bachelor’s degree (or master’s degree) in Law preferred
  • 9+ years of experience in drafting patent specifications and providing opinion for all related patent matters
  • Experience in conducting research and drawing conclusions

Knowledge

  • Knowledge in Intellectual Property Law and able to handle matters such as copyrights, patents, industrial design, trademark law, licensing, franchising, distribution, technology transfers, and trade secret projects
  • Knowledge in licensing inventions, drafting licensing agreements, negotiating settlements, and conducting IP asset due diligence
