Thai Textile Society Newsletter Recounts Walk and Talk Event at Tilleke & Gibbins’ Textile Collection

Thai Textile Society Newsletter Vol VI - Issue No. II

The Thai Textile Society has published a an article recounting a recent “Curator’s Walk and Talk” event, hosted by Tilleke & Gibbins’ Bangkok office, in the Fall 2018 edition of its newsletter.

The article provides a detailed account of the visit by 16 members of the society, which was guided by the collection’s curator, K. Wipawee Tiyawes. The tour covered a broad range of museum-quality pieces, including a selection of Tai and Tai Lue skirts, a non-traditional Northern Lao piece with some fascinating animal depictions, a selection of Vietnamese funerary skirts, and many other spectacular pieces from across Southeast Asia. The account of the tour is accompanied by striking photos of many of the key pieces that were viewed on the tour, as well as vivid descriptions of the key pieces. The article also covers the museum-like conditions in which the textiles are kept, in order to protect the almost 2,000 artefacts, kindly referred to as “a national treasure conserved in Thailand.”

The full article can be read at the link below, or at the Thai Textile Society’s website.
