USPTO Asia Regional Workshop on Effective Practice in IP Border Enforcement

Suebsiri Taweepon and Wiramrudee Mokkhavesa, partner and attorney-at-law respectively in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group, will be providing their insights on a number of topics at a four-day United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) workshop in Bangkok, entitled “Effective Practice in IP Border Enforcement.”

The workshop will be held on September 12-15 at the Anorma Grand Hotel Bangkok, as part of the USPTO Global IP Academy series. These events are organized by the U.S. Department of Justice in cooperation with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; with the support of the U.S. Department of State INL Program.

On the first day of the event, September 12, Suebsiri will join a panel discussion entitled “Challenges to Enforcement in a Global Market and Online eCommerce Environment.” The panel will be moderated by a coordinator from the U.S. Department of Justice in Hong Kong, and will include senior legal professionals and governmental experts from the United States and Southeast Asia.

Wiramrudee will join the opening panel of the second day of the event, September 13, to discuss “Operational Issues: Recordal Systems; Risk Assessment; Identifying Suspected Goods; Suspension of Release, Seizure, Forfeiture, Disposition and Destruction of Infringing Goods; and Interaction with Free Trade Zones.” Wiramrudee will be representing the International Trademark Association on this panel of leading customs enforcement and trade policy professionals from the USA and Thailand.

Suebsiri will join the final panel discussion of the workshop, on September 15, to discuss the topic “Can This Corner Be Turned? Thoughts on Progress Made and Challenges Remaining for Governments and Rights Owners,” with a selection of business leaders and legal professionals from around the world.
