Cynthia Pornavalai Presents on AEC at AMCHAM Event

American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand

The upcoming ASEAN Economic Community integration in 2015 will have major economic implications for companies operating in all ASEAN member states. To give some context to the expected impact of this agreement, Tilleke & Gibbins partner Cynthia Pornavalai today gave a presentation on AEC issues at a meeting of the Business and Economics Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Thailand.

Cynthia’s presentation reviewed the AEC’s goal of transforming the region into an economic powerhouse by making it a single market and production base and allowing for the free flow of goods, labor, services, investment, and capital across the ASEAN member countries. She also discussed the opportunities and challenges that business operators in Thailand will face in this new economic community. This discussion built on Cynthia’s February 2012 Informed Counsel article focusing on the AEC.
